Appearance is important, don't try to look and act rich. It will just boost the prices for you. Also Russians don't like people who flaunt wealth. But they also don't like people who are cheap. It is best to try to fit and blend in as best as you can. Backpacks are not commonly used by Russians, so this will identify you as a tourist. Most Russians carry plastic bags with them with photos of actors or some theme from America on them. Wear Nike or Adidas outfit, or pants and leather jacket and you will fit right in. Ladies in Russia generally dress up, and wear quite sexy outfits, but this is not very practical when traveling for women, so it is a little more difficult to look like them for the ladies. Don't be a tacky tourist!
